                                           Emily Dickinson was a very influential poet, and she will be remembered in history for a long time.

            “Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul - and sings the tunes without the words - and never stops at all”, said Emily Dickson. Emily Dickinson was a very influential poet, and she will be remembered in history for a long time. Emily Dickinson’s life, her surroundings, and the analyziation of her poems will be discussed in the following paragraphs.

Emily Dickinson was not like most poets during her time. She explored and wrote about her feelings. Most of her feelings were caused by pain. The pain was from her loneliness and isolation during her childhood. Unlike the other poets, she did not shape her views. Instead, her views were just free thoughts. The themes she used in her poems are death, influenced from the Civil War, truth, fame, influenced by her father being a big part in the 19th century political area, grief, also influenced by the Civil War, faith, influenced by the Great Revival, which her father was a part of, and freedom, caused by the abolitionist movement to stop slavery. Three symbols she used in her work are birds, stones, and feet.

            Emily Dickinson was born in 1830. She was born and raised in Amherst, Massachusetts. She stayed in her home, and rarely went out into the world. There were not many people that came to see her during those years. Because of this, her worldview might have been very narrow. Sir Charles Wadsworth influenced her when they met on a trip going to Philadelphia. There are reports that some of the poems about “heartsickness” were about him, when he left to the West Coast. By the time she was in her adult years, she became very distant from the outer world, isolating herself from everyone. While isolated, she read a lot and spent a lot of time with family.

            During Emily Dickinson’s time, there were many societal events that shaped her work. The Great Revival, “renewed religious fervor among the people of New England”. Her father joined the movement and she was very skeptic about it. During the 1840s and 1850s, the abolitionist movement was going on. It was a societal movement to stop slavery. The Kansas-Nebraska Act of May 30, 1854 was also a big part of the abolitionist movement. Her father and some of his colleagues decided to create a new political party. This later would become the Republican Party. Also, a lot of people she knew and was close with fought in the war, and some also died in the war.

            The reasons in the past paragraphs prove that Emily Dickinson was a very influential poet. These also prove that she will be remembered in history for a long time. Her poems were analyzed. Also, her surroundings and life were discussed.

song is incomplete without the lyrics (Bansal). This song that hope sings is so beautiful that it does not need lyrics (Bansal). Hope is independent.

“And never stops at all,” (Dickinson). Bir 

ds are always singing songs and chirping. They are never quite. Hope is also always singing its inspirational song. It is always there for us. Hope will never leave us.

The second stanza‟s use of imagery paints a picture of what hope looks like if it was destroyed (“Emily Dickinson Poem Analysis”). Hope is a

ry harsh and noisy. Although, the wind is loud, you can always still hear the faint sound of hope. The wind represents the hard times that

to comfort us and remind us that our

hard times will eventually end. “And sore must be the storm”

(Dickinson). When we are going through rough times in our life we feel surrounded by darkness and gloom. It feels like it

them, all the negative things in our life could drown out hope. Just like a little bird can be injured in a treacherous storm, our hope can be lost in difficu

(Dickinson). Hope gives people comfort. It reminds us that the bad times will end and that there are good times to come. Hope keeps us warm in this great big storm that we call life. The third stanza uses the literary element of mood. Emily Dickinson uses the last stanza to explain the deeper meaning of hope.
